All Hallows’ Eve — now known as Halloween — carries an ancient, rich, and spiritual heritage that bridges the sacred and the seasonal, the mystical and the mortal. Here’s a retelling of the deeper story and history behind it:

🎃 All Hallows’ Eve — The Night the Veil Thins

Long before costumes and candy, October 31st marked a night of reverence and mystery. Known as All Hallows’ Eve, it is the vigil night before All Saints’ Day (November 1st) — a Christian feast honoring the holy and the hallowed. But its roots go even deeper.

🕯️ Samhain: The Celtic Origin

Centuries before Christianity swept Europe, the ancient Celts celebrated Samhain (pronounced “sow-in”), a fire festival marking the end of the harvest and the beginning of winter — the “darker half” of the year.

They believed that on this liminal night, the veil between the worlds of the living and the dead grew thin, allowing spirits to pass through. Ancestors were honored, and hearths were lit with sacred flames. But not all spirits were welcome — hence the disguises and offerings to ward off mischief from the otherworldly.

✝️ Christian Fusion: Hallowmas and the Dead

As Christianity expanded, the Church absorbed and sanctified the festival. Samhain became All Hallows’ Eve, preceding All Saints’ Day (Nov 1) and All Souls’ Day (Nov 2) — a sacred triduum known as Hallowtide. This became a time for honoring the saints, praying for the dead, and remembering those who’ve crossed over.

Customs merged: lighting candles in windows to guide souls, dressing up to blend with spirits, and setting places at the table for the dearly departed.

🌫️ When the Veil Thins…

Even today, many believe All Hallows’ Eve remains a threshold night. A time when:

The air holds whispers of those long passed. Dreams turn vivid and messages come clearer. Hearts feel the pull of ancestors — calling us not to fear death, but to remember.

Across cultures — from Día de los Muertos in Mexico to Obon in Japan — this season reflects a common thread: honoring the dead, embracing the cycle, and knowing we are never truly alone.

What the religious community, raised you to see. They distorted the story the history. 👇🏻
