I came across this article this morning about Parkinson’s disease, as my Ken is showing signs of this disease. I’m always looking for answers in holistic care. Since it was the very first way to help heal the body, mind and Spirit.
And I’ve never been let down by something Spirit has created. Again a seeker of Truth, I go to source for my answers.
The simple but mighty spice/herb, has again shown its amazing flavor and healing energies!
Neurological scientists at Rush University Medical Center have found that using cinnamon, a common food spice and flavoring material, can reverse the biomechanical, cellular and anatomical changes that occur in the brains of mice with Parkinson’s disease (PD). The results of the study were recently published in the June 20 issue of the Journal of Neuroimmune Pharmacology.
“Cinnamon has been used widely as a spice throughout the world for centuries,” said Kalipada Pahan, PhD, study lead researcher and the Floyd A. Davis professor of neurology at Rush.”
Parkinson’s disease (PD) is the most common neurodegenerative movement disorder with obscure etiology and no disease-modifying therapy to date. Hence, novel, safe, and low cost-effective approaches employing medicinal plants are currently receiving increased attention. A growing body of evidence has revealed that cinnamon, being widely used as a spice of unique flavor and aroma, may exert neuroprotective effects in several neurodegenerative diseases, including PD. In vitro evidence has indicated that the essential oils of Cinnamomum species, mainly cinnamaldehyde and sodium benzoate, may protect against oxidative stress-induced cell death, reactive oxygen species generation, and autophagy dysregulation, thus acting in a potentially neuroprotective manner.

So coffee with cinnamon and getting more cinnamon in his diet is the plan. Remember to use Ceylon Cinnamon!
Cinnamon is an excellent addition to coffee. It makes your coffee tastier by imparting subtle sweetness which is great for a cup of sour or bitter coffee. Adding cinnamon also brings health benefits like lowering your cholesterol and triglyceride levels. It is a very good addition for diabetic patients as well.
