Boots came into my life nearly 16 years ago. She came into the yard with a pack of dogs. My daughter and I ran out to the pasture where I had three mini donks. Knowing that a donkey will and has killed a dog or coyote we needed to get to the pup first.
She was a happy puppy, but had a puncture wound on her nose where she had been in a fight with other dogs.
I meant to get her checked out and vaccinated, and then surrender her to the local animal shelter.
Yet as I sat there in the vets off, this nice elderly gentleman asked me where I’d gotten that dog. I told him she had come into the yard with some other dogs and we rescued her from the mini donks.
The gentleman told me to keep that pup, she would be the best dog ever!
I had no idea how she would do around young children, so one day I had to take her to the vet to get a bee sting checked out. There was this little girl about 5 maybe 6 and she kept sidling up to Boots. I had to pay the vet and told my daughter to be watchful. Once I’d finished my payment, I turned around to find this young lady hugging the stuffing from my pup. And Boots had the best expression on her face.
I had to make the worst decision ever today. As my Boots at 16 had become crippled up and was being taken over by collie nose aka Discoid Lupus Erythematosus an autoimmune disease.
But she was the bestest friend I ever had, always there with me when I couldn’t sleep or was sick. She was so happy and excited to always see me.
It hurt my heart to leave her behind and watch her get sicker.
So today I sent her home. To be with my sister. To be with my other beloved fur babies. To run, and be free of pain.
My heart didn’t want to but the looks and the thoughts were there and I couldn’t be selfish anymore.
Our pets are pure love, want to know what Spirit is like, look into a pets eyes. What to know what love is? It’s not a human, it’s not a thing, it’s a living breathing Spirit!
Yes, Sir… Boots was the bestest Soul I ever met! And I’ll never be able to replace her, nor would I ever want to!

In loving memory
